“What I am looking for is not out there, it is in me .” – Anne Frank

I have a question for you. Where do you go to seek answers to your questions about your life?  Google search engines, Wikipedia and YouTube videos may be among your top choices for swift answers.  Perhaps you go to trusted coaches, friends, mentors or teachers for guidance and counsel.  Maybe you turn to good, old-fashioned resources like books, journals, newspapers or magazines for your answers.  All of these are means for answering your questions in life.  Frankly, if you are taking the time to read this blog, I suspect you do use these resources on a consistent basis to grow and develop yourself, so that when you ask those questions, you already have the vital information stored up.  This leads us to an insightful thought from Anne Frank for this week.   The answers we need might be found in the resources mentioned above for, but your starting place for finding answers starts…  within you.

“What I am looking for is not out there, it is in me .” – Anne Frank

This concept reminds me of one of my favorite high school teachers who used to instruct the class before a test that if we didn’t know an answer, to “trust the answer that came first in our minds.” The idea was that we have the answer within us and we need to trust the answers our minds reveal to us.  The problem isn’t the answer that is within us, it is whether or not we trust the answer from the person who gave us the answerDo you trust yourself

questions and answers

We ask others for their opinion sometimes because we do not trust the answers we are coming to.  Maybe the answer for us would make others uncomfortable.  Could it be that others would think we are foolish for the answers that come to us?  Whatever reasoning you use, the question is – do you have faith in the person you see in the mirror everyday to answer the questions of life that lead you to your best life?

No one can tell you how you will lead your life.  That is your decision.  It starts with you first.  Don’t get me wrong here. I am not saying not to seek the advice of others for wisdom and their experience.  What I am saying is that you need to begin with yourself first. Examine what you know before letting others direct your path.

Your journey starts when you go within yourself.  Your path is enhanced by all the other resources.
